abstract:

We aim in this workshop to establish the use of in situ simulation as a tool to enhance team working in high-risk clinical scenarios in the workplace. In addition, we aim to outline its use in discovering areas where local systems need improvement and in revealing latent threats to patients. We will spend some time discussing scenario design and equipment used to run a scenario, including mannequins, actors, communication aids. We will discuss the importance of the effective debrief in maximising the educational value of a simulated session. The workshop will take the format of group discussions, with demonstration of a pre-hospital scenario, and group feedback. Delegates will be able to share their own experiences, and additional skills may be gained and distributed to their own places of work.
