As the Regional Indigenous Cancer Lead Assistant at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre I support the work of the Regional Indigenous Cancer Lead and Prevention and Screening Services. Over the past 11 years, I have been working with First Nation organizations and communities throughout Northwestern Ontario and have a passion for health promotion and prevention and working closer with the First Nation communities, community health workers and other partners in providing education and awareness about cancer prevention & screening and chronic disease prevention. In my current role as the RICL Assistant I led the planning and implementation of the Wequedong Lodge Cancer Screening Program along with the development and dissemination of the Cancer Screening Toolkit which has been distributed to all First Nation communities in Ontario. Most recently my work has included working with the Indigenous Patient Navigator at TBRHSC to develop and implement a Basic Patient Needs tool for Indigenous patients in the hospital who have a language barrier. I continue to work throughout Northwestern Ontario providing education and awareness about the 3 Ontario cancer screening programs within the First Nation communities.
