Dean Carson is a Professor with the Department of Epidemiology and Global Health at Umeå University in Sweden. His interest is in how the mobility of various human populations impacts on the economic and social well being of rural and remote regions. His rural health research focuses on the recruitment and retention of health professionals particularly in remote areas, and innovation in health and care services.

Dr. Paul Peters (PhD, U. Texas at Austin) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Sciences, Carleton University, Ottawa Canada. The essence of his research is on the study of small rural places in a context of enduring structural inequities and extensive social inequalities. His rural research funded by SSHRC, CIHR, and other agencies focusses on inequalities in life expectancy, small-area demographic change, frequent hospital users, and accessibility of health services using a patient- and community-engaged approach. He is a Co-Director of the Free Range International Knowledge Partnership and Principal Investigator for the Rural Research: Information, Statistics, and Knowledge (Rural R:ISK) project.
